Actually that’s a medical symbol that has been around for the longest time and who’s origins date way back into one of the most painful and longer medical treatments. The two snakes are really Guinea worms who live in the water waiting for a host to arrive. They then enter through foot up your leg where they will grow. To remove the worms people would tie one part of the worm to a small stick and and slowly roll up the worm around the stick, which would last around 5 days or more depending on how long the worm was. They also usually came in pairs and the way to remove them has been used for centuries. :D So when you see this symbol its all because of the Guinea Worm.
